Pharmacy
We hold an extensive drug inventory to serve the needs of a modern veterinary hospital.
The New England Animal Medical Center maintains an extensive drug inventory to meets the needs of a modern veterinary facility. Many of our medications are used to treat in-hospital patients and include injections as well as oral medicines. Antibiotics, analgesics, (pain relievers), anti-inflammatory drugs, and poison antidotes are just a few of the types of medications available in our pharmacy.
We also stock medications that are useful in treating pets, but may not be available in human pharmacies. These include heartworm preventative medications, flea and tick control products, medications that are compounded into smaller doses practical for dogs and cats, and meat or fish flavored drugs palatable to dogs and cats.
Most medications that your pet might need are available at our pharmacy. We also write prescriptions when “people” pharmacies can provide you with a less expensive source for a medication.
A word about mail order pharmacies. There are some catalog type companies that advertise that you can save money by buying products directly from them. We have found that our charge for heartworm medications, to use a common example, is competitive with these outlets. (Someone has to pay for all that TV advertising!) Since the drug manufacturers sell only to licensed veterinarians where do drugs come from that are sold by the catalog type companies? In some cases the drugs are manufactured overseas and are not subject to US government inspection. In some cases the drugs have poor dating sold to the catalog companies illegally by veterinarians. In any event the manufacturers will only honor the drug warranty if purchased from a licensed veterinarian. (Buyer Beware)
