Safety & Comfort of acupuncture treatments for pets |
| Acupuncture is
a Safe Mode of Therapy |
 |
- Acupuncture is
one of the safest modes of medical therapy for animals when administered by
a trained veterinarian
- We only use SerinŽ and HwatoŽ acupuncture needles which
are sterilized and individually packaged for single use
to minimize any possible risks of infection
- Serious side effects & infections from the needles are very rare
|
| The Most
Commonly Reported Side Effects: |
- Pets may seem a little worse up to 48 hours after treatment, but then
they show marked improvement for a period of time.
- Pets may become sleepy or quiet for up to 24 hours after treatment
Both of these effects indicate that
physiologic changes are occurring and that the acupuncture is having an
effect on the body
|
| Acupuncture is a Generally Painless
Process |
- Acupuncture needles are very thin-
32 gauge in most cases which
is
smaller than the typical hypodermic needle on an insulin syringe
-
For most pets
the insertion of acupuncture needles is virtually painless
-
Sensitive pets
may react slightly, but usually no more than to a mosquito bite
-
Once the
needles are inserted, many pets become very sleepy and immediately want to
lie down for the remainder of the treatment. Some dogs even appear
to fall asleep.
-
Patients
treated with electroacupuncture more commonly show signs of stimulation
which may be mildly uncomfortable
-
Humans report
sensations of tingling, mild cramps, and numbness
