| About Bach Flower Therapy
|
| Traditional Bach
Flower essences treat emotional disorders and/or underlying disease that
cause an animal's behavioral or physical symptoms. There are 28 main
Bach Flower essences, each of which "remedies" or evens out a
particular type of behavior, such as fear, aggression, insecurity,
dominance, mental exhaustion, etc. Several different essences can be
combined into a customized preparation for each animal
to remedy behavioral & physical symptoms. Appropriate essence selection
relies on careful systematic observation of the animal's behavior in the
environment in which they occur. |
| Treatment combinations- remedies
for constitution & mood |
- Constitution is defined by an individual's inherent character,
temperament, & behavior which is not easily altered
- A breed type is often dominated by a particular constitution or "typical personality"
of the breed
- "Constitution remedies" are flower essence preparations used to treat
individuals whose behavioral problems stem from their
fundamental character traits
An example of a constitution remedy would be giving
Gentian, a remedy for easy discouragement, despondency, & lack of interest
in food to Siamese and other Asian breeds of cats when they are ill-
especially if hospitalized. The Siamese cats and other Asian breeds
tend to give up when ill, often stop eating, and in general do not respond
as quickly to medical treatment and supportive care compared to other cats
in the same situation.

- Mood is defined as a
transient state of mind
- Mood remedies are flower essences that
aim to treat undesirable or destructive transient mood states
- Mood remedies are effective for most individuals regardless of their constitution or type
An example of a mood remedy would be giving the essence Mimulus to a dog
who hides under the bed and urinates during thunderstorms. Mimulus
remedies the fear of known thing.

- Remedies to treat mood & constitution
- Some constitutions can exaggerate or prolong the symptoms or behavior
seen during transient mood states
- Several essences can be combined together to remedy
mood and minimize the effect of the individual's constitution on the
behavior
An example is a case of a Doberman who is afraid of thunderstorms.
Like many others of his breed, he is very anxious, protective, & clingy with
his owners, and in the past has displayed destructive behavior when
separated from the owner. The owner has worked with the dog to help the
separation anxiety, and the dog is much better (though not perfect), but
every time there is a thunderstorm when the owner is not home, the dog
resumes his destructive behavior. This dog would do best with a combination
remedy- giving Chicory to help with the separation anxiety, and Mimulus to
help with the fear of a known thing- in this case thunderstorms.

| The Heritage & Tradition of Bach Flower
Therapy |
- The Bach system of healing was developed in the 1930s by Dr. Edward
Bach, a noted British physician, homeopath, bacteriologist, & immunologist
- Dr. Bach's theory was that a healthy mind is the key to recovery from
ill health
- Dr. Bach discovered many of the 38 healing plants and flowers that
make up the Bach healing system in his native England
- Bach flower tinctures are prepared today using the same formulas
developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s and comply to strict regulatory
standards for natural products world wide.
- The tinctures are concentrated into stock formulas which are then
added to mineral water to make therapeutic solutions for patients
